Powder metallurgy is a process technology that manufactures materials and products through the forming and sintering of metal powders. The basic principle involves mixing metal or metal with non-metal powders, applying high pressure in a mold to shape them into the desired form, and then sintering at high temperatures to cause diffusion and fusion between powder particles, resulting in products with specific strength and hardness.
Process flow of powder metallurgy:
Powder preparation: metal powder is prepared by mechanical method or physical and chemical method.
Material mixing: metal powders with different properties are mixed in proportion.
Forming: Place the mixed powder into a mold and apply high pressure to compact it.
Sintering: The pressed seed is placed in the sintering furnace and heated to a temperature lower than the melting point of the parent material to combine the powder particles.
Sintering after treatment: including heat treatment and surface treatment to further improve the performance and shape of the product.
Characteristics of powder metallurgy:
Merit:
It can produce materials and products that are difficult to produce by other methods.
The cutting amount is reduced in the production process, and materials and energy are saved.
Suitable for mass production, high production efficiency.
Shortcoming:
Powder manufacturing is costly.
The size and shape of the product are limited.
Sintered parts are less resilient.
Application Area:
Powder metallurgy is widely used in the manufacture of friction reduction materials, structural materials, tool and die materials, high temperature materials and electromagnetic materials.
