Powder metallurgy is a process technology that manufactures materials and products through the formation and sintering of metal powder. Its basic principle is to mix metal or metal with non-metallic powder, apply high pressure in the mold to shape it into the desired shape, and then sinter it at high temperature to cause diffusion and fusion welding between powder particles to form a product with a certain strength and hardness.

The process of powder metallurgy:

Powder preparation: Metal powder is prepared by mechanical or physical and chemical methods.

Material mixing: Mix metal powders with different properties in proportion.

Molding: Put the mixed powder into the mold and apply high pressure to compact it.

Sintering: Put the pressed embryo into the sintering furnace and heat it to a temperature lower than the melting point of the parent material to combine the powder particles.

Sintering post-treatment: including heat treatment and surface treatment to further improve the performance and shape of the product.

Characteristics of powder metallurgy:

Advantages:

It can produce materials and products that are difficult to produce by other methods.

The amount of cutting is reduced in the production process, and materials and energy are saved.

It is suitable for large-scale production and has high production efficiency.

Disadvantages:

The cost of powder manufacturing is relatively high.

The size and shape of the product are subject to certain restrictions.

The toughness of sintered parts is poor.

Field of application:

Powder metallurgy is widely used in the manufacture of friction-reducing materials, structural materials, tool mold materials, high-temperature materials and electromagnetic materials, etc.
