Powder metallurgy gears are structural gears made from metal powders as raw materials, manufactured through processes such as pressing and sintering. They are widely used in automotive, machinery, and home appliances industries. The manufacturing process includes powder production, mixing, mold pressing, sintering, and post-processing, allowing for near-net shaping with a material utilization rate of over 95%.
This process features minimal machining and high batch production efficiency, with a single mold able to produce tens of thousands of parts. The material systems include iron-based (low cost, wear-resistant), copper-based (excellent thermal conductivity), stainless steel (corrosion-resistant), and nickel/cobalt-based alloys (high-temperature resistant).
Gear precision can reach grades 7-9, and the warm pressing process can enhance torque up to 25NM. Typical applications include precision components such as automotive engine timing belt pulleys, transmission synchronizer hubs, and oil pump rotors. Due to the limitations of the process characteristics, their diameter typically does not exceed 110mm, making them unsuitable for the manufacture of worm gears and large helix angle gears.
